Quality and safety

Research confirms the safety of Hackman products

Hackman is the largest and best-known brand of cutlery and cookware in the Nordic countries. We manufacture high-quality, durable products. At the core of Hackman’s philosophy is continuous product development by means of research into new materials and production methods, while maintaining respect for the environment.

From time to time, the potential health risks posed by coatings applied to various products and chefs’ tools attract a flurry of discussion and become a media topic. Coated products in the Hackman range comprise the HardFace collection, Match fying pans and the Favorit pancake pans. The coating used in these is either the reinforced triple-layer Hardtec 5000 or at pancake pans Teflon Select. Hackman’s newest pans (Matador, Etiqett, HardFace Pro and Match wok), on the other hand, are coated with the innovative ceramic material, Ceratec°, which has a completely different composition to previous coating materials.

All the coatings that we use have EU approval. We require that all our material suppliers produce a certificate from an independent external research institution on the safety of their materials. We only use top quality coatings in our products. For example, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which is the US food safety supervisory authority, has attested the suitability of our coatings for normal domestic use, as have health and safety authorities around the world.

Avoid over-heating
Coated products have many benefits: they are easy to clean and they make even completely fat- or oil-free cooking simple. All our products are accompanied by clear use and maintenance instructions in several different languages. Follow the instructions, and you will get the maximum benefit from the products – safely. The single most important thing to remember when using a coated product is not to over-heat it. Research indicates that gases that are a potential health hazard are only produced when the pan reaches a heat of over 400°C. Food cooked at such a high heat would be inedible. Normally, frying heat is around 200°C maximum. This level of heat does not produce any kind of reaction in the coating that could be a health hazard.

Nylon kitchen utensils
Recently, there have been warnings in Denmark about kitchen utensils made of black nylon, which could dissolve PAA into food. The material used to produce the Hackman brand black nylon kitchen utensils has been tested in Sweden and Denmark, and it has passed all the tests. You can rest assured that all Hackman tools and utensils are safe to use and no material dissolves from them.
